Just passing by, but noticed your doctoral research subject. You might want to look at the Ph.D. dissertation of my cousin, Dr. Jeannie Annan, completed a couple of years ago at Indiana University, on war trauma suffered by children in Uganda and southern Sudan (if I have that right). If you find it helpful, I would be glad to connect you with Jeannie, who just left Yale for a research position in NYC….

All of us want peace both world peace and inner peace. Peace occurs at the level of thought. When we listen to the ego’s voice, fear, anger, and hatred dominate our thoughts. Only when we listen to the voice of the Spirit can we find peace, as we learn to love others unconditionally and to forgive. True love means that we are willing to extend our circle of love to include everyone.
Those who do not support non-violent solutions are never authentic with themselves. Because of our humanness, we all make mistakes. Some of these mistakes are more serious in their consequences than other. Not ashamed of the destruction they are causing to the next generation by recruiting child soldiers.

Thank you for sharing my concern about causes of conflicts and finding peace within self. I still continue to struggle to wonder why as humans fail to understand that we are all participants in all aspects of life and activities. I strongly belief every single person counts, matter and deserve an opportunity to contribute to either negative or positive aspects of life in one way or the other by speaking or keeping silent, or by action or being dominant and passive.
This is because we all know God created each one of us for a purpose. There is no one best or wrong way of exercising individual God’s gifts in each of us. together we can make peaceful resolutions, accomplishments, development, stronger community without judgments and interferences. We all have failed to realize that man creates war, yet man has the capability of finding peace. Can we each allow each human being exercise his or her God given gifts at each given time with the given resource, and without condemning or hurting, or exploiting another for self ego?
Respect for individual differences is an essential part of living in peace, because no one choose to be born who and where she or he found self to belong. Yet, each of us is blessed at least with one unique God’s gift that nobody else will ever have at the same time in life.
let’s take a moment to reflect and relate taking care of our own personal egos that often causes us conflicts. Together we can transform and rebuild peace in the world. In life we are all partners with unique gifts. I mean only “One You” and no other person on earth will be YOU or will have, or steal that unique God given gift whatsoever and that gift is meant to be part and partial of the whole that is meant to be part of the whole in this beautiful, free given world to us. We all must take moment to observe and reflect on our own obligations versus assumed responsibilities that often result into conflicts and find the best way to find peace amidst conflict.

Thank you for writing Harriet. Your words are so true and you have issued a good challenge, to look after our own egos that often cause us conflicts. A good reminder for us all!
